On qualifying as a chartered accountant David moved to the North East to become Finance Director of a semi-autonomous subsidiary company of what was then Rank Hovis McDougall plc.
Having gained hands-on experience of commercial life, he decided to return to the finance profession and set up his own practice as Swallow & Co. Chartered Accountants in the Tees Valley/North Yorkshire. He has a particular interest in business coaching and development for SMEs. This interest led to becoming involved in the wider business support network through Training and Enterprise Councils, Business Link and latterly Enterprise Trusts.
He is the current 2011-2012 President of the Northern Society of Chartered Accountants and represents the region nationally on the ICAEW Regional Strategy Board.
David is married to Maria and lives with their children in Great Ayton, North Yorkshire. His interests include bridge, walking the dog, gardening and supporting the English Cricket Team in bad times and latterly the good times!
