Service Network: Sustainability

On 11 February 2010, Service Network and one of The Journal’s recognised “Rising Stars, Future Leaders”, Gareth Kane, Managing Director, Terra Infirma Ltd, will reveal the secrets of green business and sustainability at the “Tomorrow's World: Sustainability for the Service Sector” event sponsored by Smarter Choices.

Based on Gareth’s book, The Three Secrets of Green Business, published last year, Gareth will explain the risks of inaction and also highlight the opportunities for businesses. He will draw on his vast experience gained in the North East as a researcher with Newcastle University and also with the Clean Environment Management Centre (CLEMANCE) at Teesside University, alongside international experience with his company which is currently working with organisations including The NHS, East Coast Mainline and Aker Solutions.

Attendees will discover how sustainability is relevant to the service sector and gain an understanding of the potential benefits of change, including cost savings and new markets. In addition, Gareth will offer practical, ‘how to’ tips and illustrate common pitfalls.

Neil Warwick, Chair, Service Network said:

“We are delighted to have attracted another high calibre expert to lead one of our events. At Service Network we recognise that in terms of sustainability, doing nothing is no longer an option and we are keen to help our members to see the benefits of adopting a proactive approach. We believe that every business has the opportunity to be green and by revealing the secrets to success, we hope to inform North East businesses and give them the knowledge and support needed to make changes for their own benefit and for the benefit of the region.”

Service Network members Muckle LLP will take part in a live interview at the event, highlighting its work towards a sustainable future.

Gareth Kane, Managing Director, Terra Infirma Ltd, said:

“I am determined to share my passion and expertise in this area and am looking forward to meeting businesses who may have some, or no idea, of how to go about making positive changes and giving them practical advice that they can go back and implement in their organisations. The opportunity for an interactive discussion with Muckle LLP will help bring the reality to life.”

In addition, Graeme Mills of GPM Network will provide an insight into green communication and how adopting a sustainable approach to your business can generate new customers and build brand loyalty. Northern Stage will also discuss their approach to becoming a ‘green’ organisation.

This is just one of the Service Network Events series, all of which are devised to inspire a culture for success. This event will highlight a widely acknowledged area for change and provide evidence which demonstrates the success enjoyed by businesses that have already realised the secrets of going green.

“Tomorrow's World: Sustainability for the Service Sector” is taking place at Newcastle Falcons, Kingston Park, Newcastle upon Tyne on 11 February 2010 at 9.00am – 12.15pm.
